The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come under fire from Bernard Allotey Jacobs for claiming that the Electoral Commission (EC) is attempting to undermine their support bases in order to defeat them in the 2024 elections.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the national chairman of the NDC, said that the EC purposefully sent malfunctioning equipment to certain of its district offices in what it considered to be NDC strongholds in order to annoy eligible voters.
Mr. Jacobs made this comment during an interview with an Accra-based radio station.
“There is not more than two centres where these breakdowns are happening, which are in the stronghold of the NPP. All the rest are in the stronghold of the NDC. It is like His Excellency when he was complaining about politicking within the bar association which turns to campaign at the bar conference,” he said.
This assertion of a union between the Electoral Commission and the New Patriotic Party to rig the elections has been mocked by Allotey.
“Any political party that says such a thing shows its weakness, that that party is weak. That that party is not on the ground; that that party has no people who relate with the Electoral Commission” he said.
