Management of St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua of the Eastern Region has issued a stern warning to its staff to desist from divulging information to the public without permission by management.
According to Management of the Orthopedic Hospital, staff particularly Nurses must adhere to patient confidentiality protocols of the profession. Management says it will not hesitate to punish any staff found culpable.
The warning comes after a viral disinformation which sort to have created fear and panic after the Hospital recorded its first suspected case of coronavirus on Monday, March 30, 2020.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that management has instituted investigations into the incident.
On Monday, March 30, 2020, mybrytfmonline.com published that; there the Hospital has recorded its first suspected case of coronavirus, which test results have proven negative on Tuesday.
Information about the patient was very scanty but mybrytfmonline.com gathered that the patient showed signs and symptoms relative to COVID-19 hence was quarantined while sample collected and sent to Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research on March 30, 2020, for testing.
The incident created fear and panic among Health workers particularly Nurses at the facility because they lack Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to work making them more vulnerable to be exposed to the virus infection.
Mybrytfmonline.com has also gathered that test results for a suspected case at Providence Hospital also known as Akpaloo Hospital at Abogiri near Adweso in Koforidua, is negative. The patient who was on quarantined has been discharged.
Eastern region has not recorded any confirmed case of COVID-19.
According to the Regional Health Directorate, “the number of clinically suspected cases is 28 as of 30th March 2020. Samples have been taken from all suspects and sent to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research. Test results received are 27 and all are negative for COVID -19 whilst one (1) is still pending”.
At the National level, Ghana has recorded 152 confirmed cases of coronavirus with five (5) fatalities as of March 29, 2020.
President of Ghana Akufo-Addo on Friday night of March 27, 2020, announced partial lockdown of the Nation’s Capital-Accra and Parts of Ashanti Region as an enhanced measure to prevent increasing community spread having closed down all Borders -Land, sea and Air space.
The two weeks lockdown took effect from Monday, March 30, 2020.
