Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader and minister of parliamentary affairs, has urged the NPP leadership to send an invitation to former party veteran Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in order to reintegrate him back into the party.
On September 25, Mr. Kyerematen, a former minister of trade and industry, announced his resignation from the NPP and stated that he will head up an independent movement in the next 2024 elections.
He mentioned intimidation against his followers and the party’s control by a small group of people as justifications for his choice.
But the majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, thinks that the solution to any problem is to talk to Mr. Kyerematen.
Insisting that it may be advantageous for both parties, he asked the NPP leadership to use whatever means possible to persuade Mr. Kyerematen to rejoin the party.
“I think that every effort must be made, even if it’s a one percent possibility, let’s see what will come out of it. We are talking about Alan’s situation, where we are saying that let’s still engage if he will come back. To now go into specifics will be a difficulty, it may hamper the reconciliation I’m suggesting. It’s possible to bring him back,” the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs opined in a media interview.
Since Mr. Kyerematen has been a devoted supporter of the NPP for many years and is well-known for his services to the party and his involvement in different government posts, his decision to run on his own has shocked the political scene.
