The Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) branch in Upper Manya Krobo District launched its one-week celebration at Asesewa in the Eastern Region.
Under the theme “Nurses and Midwives: The Future,” the event drew several dignitaries, including the Member of Parliament for the Upper Manya Krobo constituency, Comrade Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, and Mr. Emmanuel Gbemu, the Administrator of the District Health Directorate, deputizing for the District Director of Health Services, Mrs. Oyinka.
In his keynote address, the Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo Bismark Tetteh Nyarko expressed his profound appreciation for the dedicated service and sacrifices of nurses and midwives in the challenging rural context of the Upper Manya Krobo District.
He acknowledged the difficult conditions they often endure, especially the poor state of the roads over which they travel on their motorcycles. Despite these hardships, he appealed to them to persevere and continue serving the district, emphasizing the importance of their work for the local community.
Hon.Bismark Tetteh Nyarko also acknowledged the economic challenges faced by healthcare workers in Ghana, leading some to seek employment in Europe .
He called on government to improve condition of service of Healthcare workers to retain them for quality healthcare delivery in the country particularly rural areas.
The MP urged them to maintain a respectful and compassionate approach to their clients, recognizing that their attitude and demeanor play a significant role in the healing process. The MP concluded his address by making a generous cash donation to the association.
Mr. Emmanuel Gbemu, the Administrator of the District Health Directorate, expressed his gratitude for the Member of Parliament’s substantial contributions to the district’s healthcare services.
He highlighted various projects and donations that have positively impacted local healthcare, such as the fumigation exercise, donation of illuminated roofing sheets to health facilities, clinical equipment for the Plekumase CHPS, construction of the x-ray department, donation of essential equipment to the Sekesua Health Center, construction of the ANYABONI Resettlement MCHC, and the provision of much-needed equipment to the Asuom and Battorkope CHPS, among others.
Mr. Gbemu used the occasion to appeal to the MP for his continued support, specifically requesting expedited action on the completion of the ANYABONI Resettlement MCHC and the rehabilitation of the Otrokper Health Center.
