AFES Ghana has launched its manifesto to promotes opportunities for 10,000 young men, women and youth with disabilities to engage and influence the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly, Koforidua to strengthen their representation and integrate their plans into the Medium-Term Development Plan by 2026.
AFES Ghana is an advocacy-oriented, development-facilitator, youth-led non-profit organization working to its statutory legal mandate with over 14 years in youth development practices.
The youth manifesto project launched with a theme “Catalyzing Youth Participation in City Governance Through Community Engagement and Civic Technology”
Mission
AFES GH mission is to facilitate development paths of marginalized individuals, groups and communities by reinforcing public policy uptake, inspire self-help and stimulate mutual-aid using strategicmethods that yield tangible results.
Objectives
The Executive Director of AfesGhana, Mrs. Esther Nketia said the specific objectives is to amplify voices of 10,000 youth in the development planning and decision making processes within Koforisua, New Juaben South Municipal using direct citizens engagement mechanisms by 2026.
She said the project would build capacity of unit committee members and assembly members as youth champions in the New Juaben South Municipality.
Target Beneficiaries
Koforidua Youth Manifesto Project has targeted 4500 young men and 4500 women between 20 and 35 years who are in or out of school. The manifesto would identify and engage teenagers so as to build a legacy by nurturing and generating their interest in the governance process at early age.
The manifesto will deliberately identify and include youth with disabilities by visiting and engaging students clubs at the Koforidua school for the deaf to collect their input, and would also collaborate with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations to broaden the scope to reach understanding of specific issues faced by the youth with disability (PWDs) in the New Juaben South Municipality.
The Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area representative, Nana Osei Owusu Agyare, Akwadumhene commends Afes Ghana, appreciated the knowledgeable development of talent and potentials for self reliance in the job market.
According to him, the manifesto would enhance the youth with self motivation helping people to use their talent potentials to improve their living conditions whiles they will hass have access to knowledge and resources .
He said, AFES Ghana effort would compliment government to create jobs and eliminate social vices that have crippled New Juaben South Municipality.
AFES Ghana launched Koforidua Youth Manifesto Project supported by Star Ghana Foundation, Devine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC) BOTNAR Foundation and Bibia Be Ye Fine (BBF).
