The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations has held sensitization and awareness on the national green job agenda to facilitate job creation potential at the local level in Koforidua, Eastern region.
National Green jobs strategy was a framework developed by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) and in collaboration with stakeholders to minimize job losses and maximize the potential of the green and circular economy for the creation of decent green jobs in Ghana.
The national green jobs strategy has been developed with the intention to create platforms, develop capacities and institute measures that would organize and harmonize on-going green interventions through effective coordination.
The strategy is expected to be done by strengthening institutional capacities, development of green skills and occupations, promotion of green enterprises and mobilization of funding to support economic activities in the green sectors in order to harness the job creation potentials.
The Deputy Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPME) Mr. Ernest Berko stated that the main objective is to support the creation of green jobs through coherent and effective policy coordination of sectoral approaches.
Mr. Ernest Berko explained that the initiative was a national framework that outlines programs and projects for the mitigation and adaptation of climate change measures.
He said that the strategy adopts a multi-sectoral approach to ensure effective delivery of goods and services by specialized state and non-state actors through the implementation of measures that support the growth and expansion of the green economy in Ghana.
Mr. Ernest Berko added that it is a way of making use of the natural resources to minimize the job losses and maximize the job creation potentials in Ghana.
He said the Akosombo spillage is as a result of climate change.
Speaking on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, the Chief Director of Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, Mr John Donkor entreated participants to remain focused and take active part in the workshop.
He said that participants will be equipped with more knowledge on the National Green Jobs Strategy.
Mr John Donkor acknowledged the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Development Partners for their efforts in sustainable development.
