Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi, Chairman of Eastern Region opposition NDC Legal Team has voiced his concerns regarding a proposed demonstration at the office of Former President John Dramani Mahama.
Fixing the Country Movement led by its convener Ernest Owusu Bempah have served notice to demonstrate at the private office of former President Mahama in Accra on November 16, 2023.
Meanwhile ,NDC youth wing has also served notice to embark of clean up exercise around Mr.Mahama’s office same prompting possible deadly clashes.
Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi expresses dismay at what he sees as a disregard for private rights and a possible endorsement of such actions by state institutions.
Larbi begins by expressing his disbelief at the current state of affairs in a nation that has often been hailed for its democratic achievements.
He highlights the apparent erosion of private rights and suggests that state institutions may be tacitly supporting such actions.
The lawyer goes on to criticize a request for a demonstration at Mahama’s office, labeling it as bizarre and seemingly driven by miscreants within the ruling NPP party. He expected that the NPP, which has often prided itself as a party of scholars and professionals, would advise its members against such behavior.
However, in his view, not only has the NPP party failed to do so, but it appears that the NPP government, along with the police, has sponsored this demonstration, an action he views as outrageous.
Larbi takes the opportunity to clarify the distinction between public rights and private rights, underscoring the importance of privacy as a fundamental aspect of private rights. He emphasizes that individuals have the right to live in peace and privacy without unnecessary intrusion, a principle recognized by the law.
What particularly baffles Larbi is the fact that those planning the demonstration publicly announced their intention to breach the private rights of a citizen, Former President Mahama, and that the police seemingly granted permission for it. He expresses concerns that such behavior, when left unchecked, could be perceived as state-sponsored terrorism against a citizen.
Larbi suggests that the government may have a role in this event, as the police have not issued a warning about the breach of private rights or the potential for a breach of the peace.
In conclusion, he advises Former President Mahama to prepare to defend himself, his family, and his properties from this state-sponsored open attack.
He believes that such an action by the government will not deter the NDC, a party born out of a revolution, and that they will not be intimidated.
