Ahead of this Saturday’s presidential primary, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s Council of Elders, has lamented the status quo inside the organization.
In his introductory remarks before the Council of Elders gathering at the Alisa Hotel, Mr. Owusu Agyemang openly conveyed his apprehension that the party’s common objective would be eclipsed by the pursuit of individual interests.
The NPP will choose a flagbearer for the forthcoming 2024 elections on Saturday, November 4. There is a lot of enthusiasm around this race since four well-known party members are competing.
Mr. Owusu-Agyemang remarked, “We’ve allowed our selfish interest to override our common goal of party unity,” in a comment that struck a chord with many party members.
Former Member of Parliament for New Juaben North and seasoned politician Mr. Owusu-Agyemang underlined the need for party members to keep in mind the wider picture of breaking the Eight.
He asked them to put less emphasis on their own goals and more on the ideals and ideas that have governed the NPP throughout the years.
He acknowledged that the contest for the flagbearer post has occasionally led to intense discussions and arguments between party members and supporters of the presidential contenders, but he urged all the contenders to forgo division and maintain their unity following this Saturday’s presidential primary.
