The String of armed robberies targeting Fuel Filling Stations in Eastern Region continue.
In the latest incident, a gang of armed robbers struck Gaso Fuel Filling Station in Adankrono, near Kade, within the Kwaebibirem Municipality of the Eastern Region on the evening of Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
At around 6:30 PM, the masked armed assailants launched a violent attack, discharging a barrage of gunshots which hit a bystander.
In this audacious act, the criminals made off with an undisclosed sum of money, leaving a chilling reminder of their presence as a vehicle parked at the station bore the scars of their malevolent actions, displaying visible pellet holes.
The perpetrators managed to escape on foot into the bush before the arrival of the local police.
The incident is the latest in a series of armed robberies targeting fuel filling stations in the Eastern Region.
Just a week prior, on October 30, 2023, at approximately 7:00pm, a similar tragic robbery unfolded at the Total-5 fuel filling station, situated opposite the All-Nations University campus along the Koforidua-Akwadum to Suhum road.
During this unfortunate event, a private security guard lost his life, and another individual sustained gunshot wounds at the hands of the armed robbers.
Yilo Krobo municipality also experienced a second fuel station robbery attack on October 24, 2023, as the gang targeted the Gaso Fuel Filling Station and a mobile money vendor in the heart of the municipality.
This disturbing pattern bore unsettling resemblances to an earlier robbery on October 11, 2023, at the SP Gas filling station located just 200 meters away.
Eyewitnesses reported that four armed robbers, including a female, executed their mission with remarkable swiftness, completing their operation in less than 8 minutes amid sporadic warning shots.
Armed with pump-action guns, the criminals absconded with an unspecified sum of money from Gaso Filling Station, in addition to a substantial amount of Twenty-Eight Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 28,000) from the mobile money vendor.
As of now, no arrests have been made in any of these incidents, raising concerns about the safety of the region.
