The Chief of Akyem Muoso in Atiwa East District of Eastern Region, Barimah Dr. Owusu Beyeeman, has voiced his strong opposition to the citing of a public toilet near the Akyem Muoso Community Clinic.
The Middle Belt Development Authority, responsible for the project, has faced resistance from the community leaders who suggest the relocation of the facility to a different area within the community.
The project has meanwhile stalled as pits dug by the contractor over two years ago currently poses a threat to the community particularly school children.
Barimah Dr. Owusu Beyeeman, proposes that the project site be utilized for the construction of a bungalow instead of public toilet to accommodate healthcare workers residing far from the clinic.
This move, he argues, would significantly enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare services provided to residents.
The community, under his leadership, has already advanced plans for a bungalow facility in the contested space.
He emphasized that the clinic already boasts a toilet facility for patients, and placing a public toilet in close proximity is needless.
Barimah Dr. Owusu Beyeeman has formally communicated his concerns to the Atiwa West District Assembly, urging a reevaluation of the decision.
Mr. Emmanuel Kudufia, the nurse in charge of the Muoso CHIPS Compound, echoes the sentiments of the community leader, commending the Chief and his elders for their decisive stance.
He stressed the need to convert the space into a bungalow, citing potential benefits for the healthcare facility, especially with the imminent arrival of a resident midwife.
The community leaders and healthcare professionals stand united in their appeal, advocating for a more suitable for a bungalow instead of public toilet.
