The leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has been encouraged to grant newly elected flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the freedom to select his preferred running mate for the 2024 presidential contest.
He said “No one should impose on him [Dr Bawumia]” despite numerous names popping up to be considered for the running mate position.
“We should allow him to do that for himself,” he told NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is also a strong favorite to win the job, expressed gratitude to people who are supporting his pairing with Dr. Bawumia.
“Maybe they have seen something in me, I thank them,” he noted.
To win the NPP’s presidential nomination in 2024, the vice president beat Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto in the elections. Sixty-four percent of the votes were cast for the vice president.
