The Government of Ghana in collaboration with India are working on Knowledge exchange and technology transfer for capacity strengthening on Early Warning Systems for Emergency Preparedness and Response.
The Deputy Minister for Communications and Digitalisation (MOCD), Ms. Ama Pomaa-Boateng (MP), led the 17- member delegation to India.
The eight (8) day knowledge exchange and technology transfer mission starts from the 15th to 24th November 2023.
It is hosted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Ms. Pomaa-Boateng stated that the collaborative effort was expected to contribute to SDG-17 and will support the development of IT and operational infrastructure of the NADMO’s twenty-two (22) Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) decentralized at the regional and district levels.
According to the Deputy Minister, Ghana faces climate induced weather – related disasters at a reduced scale, as faced by India annually. The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at present requires capacity development and technology enhancement in the domain of forecasting solutions, early warning systems and end -to – end technological operational efficiencies for emergency management.
The programme will also look at the underlisted areas:
- IT Emergency Preparedness and Response Assessment in the Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) of NADMO across the country.
- Emergency Telecommunications Preparedness and Response Capacity Strengthening Workshop.
- A week – long South – South knowledge sharing and technology transfer and observation and learning tour to India.
