The Association of Health Service Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG), has raised serious concerns over happenings in the health sector of Ghana at its 46th Annual General Conference and Continuing Professional Education held in Abokobi, Greater Accra Region.
Deliberations centered around the theme “Appointment of Hospital Administrators: A New Dawn in the Health Administration Profession Towards Achieving Universal Health Coverage,”

- Universal Health Coverage (UHC):
Recognizing challenges in implementing Networks of Practice (NoP) for UHC, AHSAG commits to providing effective leadership at the hospital level to complement government and partner efforts, ensuring targeted resource allocation for expedited UHC achievement by 2030.
- Establishment of Regional Oxygen Production Hubs:
Welcoming the construction of sixteen (16) regional hubs to enhance medical oxygen supply, AHSAG urges swift completion to improve emergency care across health facilities nationwide. - Health Research and Publications:
Expressing concern over the low priority given to health research in Ghana, AHSAG calls on the Ministry of Health to prioritize health research and allocate resources accordingly. The association recommends the publication of research findings in reputable journals for wider accessibility. - Exodus of Health Staff:
AHSAG raises alarm over the high rate of health professionals leaving the country, posing a threat to quality healthcare and UHC goals. Urging the Ministry of Health to implement measures to curb staff attrition, AHSAG calls for immediate recruitment to address personnel shortfalls in health facilities. - Medical Malpractice:
Observing a rise in medical malpractice cases, AHSAG calls on hospital managers to implement measures to prevent negligence, resolve patient complaints promptly, and sensitize health personnel on the Patient’s Charter. - Mortuaries and Funerals:
Commending the establishment of the Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA), AHSAG seeks additional resources for MoFFA to fulfill its mandate. The association pledges support for MoFFA in streamlining and regulating mortuary and funeral home activities, advocating for the creation of more community/city mortuaries. - Access to Dialysis Services:
Expressing concern over reported renal failure cases, AHSAG recommends equipping all Regional Hospitals with dialysis centers. The association commits to supporting the government in identifying sustainable funding for renal disease treatment, including dialysis services.
- Payment of Electricity Bills by Health Facilities:
Expressing concern over the offloading of electricity bill payments to health facilities, AHSAG calls on the government to urgently review the directive or allow health service providers to renegotiate realistic tariffs with the National Health Insurance Authority.
