In another striking instance of challenges faced by healthcare facilities in the Eastern Region, Yunbow Michael Jordan, a principal community health nurse in Bonkro, Afram Plains South district, has assisted in the delivery of a pregnant woman in a tricycle.
The incident occurred due to the unavailability of a delivery bed at the CHPs compound facility.
Justina Kwame, 32, visited the facility on December 29, 2023, intending to deliver her child.
However, the absence of a delivery bed led to a decision to transport her to Maame Krobo clinic.
Unfortunately, labor commenced around 10:00 am during the journey.
Undeterred by the lack of proper facilities, Nurse Yunbow Michael Jordan safely delivered the baby boy in the tricycle.
Following the delivery, both the mother and newborn were promptly transferred to Maame Krobo clinic for further medical attention.
This incident underscores the persistent healthcare challenges faced by communities in the Afram Plains South Area, attributed to deplorable roads and inadequate access to health facilities and midwives.
Nurse Yunbow Michael Jordan, also a BSc. Public Health student nurse at Wisconsin International University College, has a history of responding to such emergencies.
In 2018, he assisted a pregnant woman in labor while en route to Dome, a remote community in the area, showcasing the ongoing struggles with healthcare infrastructure in the region.
