The Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has directed operators of Hotels and Guest Houses to furnish it details of visitors received since March 30, 2020, to enable the assembly to analyze to inform its decision to prevent COVID-19 spread to the Municipality.
The move is as part of measures rolled out by the municipal Assembly to combat the Coronavirus pandemic which a case has been recorded in a sister Municipality-Lower Manya Krobo.
Among the measure announced is mounting of barriers and Police Check Points, checking temperatures of persons leaving and entering the Municipality, distributing Veronica hand washing buckets among others.
Ghana confirmed 73 new cases of COVID-19 March 6, 2020, surging the national case count to 287. The President of Ghana Akufo-Addo announced over the weekend that Ghana was entering a critical stage of the disease.
President of Ghana Akufo-Addo on March 27, 2020, announced a partial lockdown of the Nation’s Capital-Accra and Parts of Greater Kumasi for two weeks as an enhanced measure to prevent increasing community spread having closed down all Borders -Land, sea and Air spaces. The government also imposed mandatory 14 days quarantine for returnees in the country. Additionally, the President has established a COVID-19 Fund to help mobilize resources to fight the pandemic.

COVID-19 SCARE: YILO KROBO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY ANNOUNCES 9 MEASURES TO CONTROL PANDEMIC
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, in the Eastern Region5, has noticed an influx of people into the Municipality due to the partial lockdown of Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi as announced by President Akufo-Addo on Friday 27th April 2020.
Given that, the Municipal Public Health Emergency Committee together with the Municipal Security Council has taken the following measures effective 3rd April 2020 to curb the spread of the Coronavirus within the Municipality:
1. Barriers/Checkpoints would be mounted at the following entry/exit points to Somanya; Trom Junction, DVLA, and Adjikpo.
The barriers will be manned by personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Health Service to take temperatures of people and direct abnormal cases to the appropriate authorities.
2. Taxis, trotros would be mandatorily checked at these checkpoints before being allowed in and out of the Municipality. The taxis would be allowed to carry one (1) person at the front seat and two (2) persons at the back seat while the Trotros will carry two (2) persons in front including the driver and two (2) persons on a row for Urvan Buses and three (3) persons on a row for sprinters, in line with social distancing protocols.
3. All Hotels, Guest Houses, etc should provide to the Assembly, the number of visitors they have received from 30th March 2020 to date for necessary action to be taken.
Hotels should ensure the provision of Veronica buckets and Mandatory hand washing before entry to their reception and to make available infrared Thermometers to check temperatures of guests visiting their premises.
4. All pubs, drinking spots should shut down until further notice. This measure is to reduce the spread of the pandemic, and also aid the challenges in contact tracing.
5. Food vendors chop bars and restaurants can operate but customers should not be allowed to sit and eat. Instead, the food should be bagged and taken away.
6. The Information Service Department and other stakeholders would carry out public education using the community Information Centres in the various electoral areas on these measures and inform families to encourage their relatives who have moved from Accra and other places to have themselves checked at the health facilities and self-isolate to curb any possible spread.
7. During this period, the Police and the Emergency Response Team of the Assembly will step up patrol operations to ensure that these measures are complied with.
8. We encourage the citizens to stay at home if they do not have urgent activities outside. As much as possible, they should STAY AT HOME.
9. All Churches, Mosques and Prayer Camps should remain closed until further notice. There should be no conventions, conferences, retreats, picnics, and meetings in general during Easter.
It is therefore expected that as law-abiding citizens, we should all cooperate with the Assembly to ensure that lives are protected.
