There was chaos at Kwahu Bepong on Sunday February 4,2024 when angry residents clashed with police over gruesome murder of two persons in the community.
The heart-wrenching incident occurred five days ago when an eyewitness stumbled upon the gruesome scene.
The assailant had allegedly killed a man and a woman.
In a desperate bid to save the surviving victim, the eyewitness rushed to town to seek assistance.
Tragically, help arrived too late, and the woman succumbed to her injuries due to the remote location of the crime scene.
The community rallied, united in their pursuit of justice for the victims.
The chief offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of the alleged killer.
On Sunday,a vigilant resident spotted the suspect in Kwasi Fori, a suburb of Kwahu Bepong.
Swift action ensued, resulting in the arrest of the individual, subsequently brought to the chief’s palace.
However, tensions escalated when police arrived to manage the situation, leading to a clash with citizens and a chaotic scene.
Amidst the turmoil, a police officer suffered a severe head injury from a thrown stone, prompting the use of firearms. Tragically, a woman lost her life, and three others sustained injuries in the unintended crossfire.
The situation further deteriorated as enraged citizens, fueled by grief and anger, targeted law enforcement assets.
Over four police motorcycles were destroyed, and a patrol team vehicle rendered inoperable. The chief’s palace also bore the brunt of the chaos, with items destroyed and burnt.
In the midst of the tumult, the suspect remains in police custody, with reinforcements deployed to restore order in Kwahu Bepong.
Twenty -five (25) suspected rioters have been arrested by the police.
