A passing-out parade has been conducted for the inaugural cohort of 187 graduates and General recruits from the Koforidua Police Training School.
The event showcased the diverse training modules undertaken by the recruits within six months, reflecting the new reform in police training.
The training included riding, driving, swimming, crowd control, incident and disaster management, crime scene management, traffic management, radio communication, intelligence gathering, community based patrols, charge office management, access control, arrest and search procedures, use of force procedures, human rights, clients care and professional police ethics, tactical progression, weapon handling and high risk operation
Parade Commander COP Abiba Yaa Twumasi-Sarpong, Director General of Police Welfare at the Ghana Police Service, delivered a stirring address, emphasizing the importance of upholding public trust and respecting citizens’ human rights, particularly in light of the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
“As graduands, you are passing out at a time when Ghana will be organizing General elections at the end of the year,” stated COP Twumasi-Sarpong. “Hence the need to caution you that in order to live up to the public trust and expectations, you must enforce security laws governing the elections fairly with utmost respect for citizens’ human rights.”
Twumasi-Sarpong reassured the public of comprehensive security measures being implemented in collaboration with sister security services to ensure a secure environment for the elections. She highlighted the establishment of an election security secretariat, led by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, dedicated to overseeing all election-related security matters.
Addressing the recruits, COP Twumasi-Sarpong outlined the vision of the Ghana Police Service under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, aiming to position the service as the premier institution in Ghana and a reference point in Africa and beyond.
She underscored the positive outcomes already evident from the training reforms, with recruits displaying proficiency upon deployment to various stations.
