The Government of Ghana has commenced the disbursement of social subsidies to eligible households across the nation through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme under the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection (MoGCSP) since Monday, February 26th, 2024.
The exercise, which represents the payments of the 88th Cycle of LEAP Cash Grant, is set to benefit over 1.5 million individuals.
To ensure effective monitoring of the payment cycle and evaluation of the program’s performance, the Ministry has assembled dedicated monitoring teams tasked with collecting data on various indicators for evaluation.
This effort will also facilitate interaction between the Ministry and beneficiaries, enabling the assessment of the program’s impact on their lives.
The disbursement amount to each household is determined by the number of eligible members it comprises.
Households qualify for LEAP if they include orphaned and vulnerable children, elderly individuals aged 65 and above without support, persons with severe disabilities preventing them from working, and pregnant women and mothers with infants under one year.
LEAP is a social cash transfer program that aims to support the most impoverished households in Ghana by focusing on poverty alleviation through human capital development and consumption smoothing.
