President Akufo Addo has announced two groundbreaking projects poised to revolutionize Ghana’s economic landscape.
Speaking at the 67th Independence Day Anniversary parade in Koforidua, President Addo outlined the significance of these initiatives in propelling Ghana towards a brighter future.
The first project entails the selection of strategic partners by the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) to establish an alumina refinery and develop mines at Nyinahin-Mpasaaso.
President Addo underscored the importance of transitioning from raw bauxite exports to domestic refining, a move expected to stimulate industrialization and create job opportunities across various sectors.
He said the signing of agreements between GIADEC and local Ghanaian company Rocksure International, as well as global industrial giant Mytilineos SA, marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s quest for self-sufficiency in the aluminium industry.
In addition to the aluminium projects, President Addo highlighted the Ada Songhor Salt project led by Electrochem Salt Mine Ltd.
He said after years of disputes, this project is finally underway and has the potential to become Africa’s largest salt-producing facility. With plans to ramp up production to two million metric tonnes by 2027, the venture promises substantial contributions to Ghana’s economy.
The Independence Day parade showcased Ghana’s vibrant cultural diversity, with 21 contingents representing various security agencies, 11 schools, and traditional groups.
Under the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” the event emphasized the importance of democratic values and peace, particularly in the context of the upcoming elections.
The display drills by the Ghana Armed Forces and Air Forces, followed by a peace message from security agencies, demonstrated the nation’s readiness for a peaceful electoral process.
Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara as the Special Guest of Honour hailed the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire.
Excitement was palpable among residents of the Eastern Region some of whom arrived at the Koforidua youth Resource Center at Midnight for early access.
