Former Deputy National Security Coordinator Hopeson Adorye made fun of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for what he said was his inability to handle the devaluation of the Ghana Cedi.
Adorye emphasized Bawumia’s earlier initiatives during his opposition, during which he actively participated in talks and seminars aimed at suggesting strategies for raising the Cedi’s value.
He shared a decade-old flyer of Bawumia’s “Restoring the Cedi” lecture during his time in opposition.
On March 25, 2024, he took aim at Bawumia directly in a Facebook post, saying, “He was restoring the value of the cedi in 2014 in opposition but cannot restore the value in government.”
As of March 26, 2024, the Ghana Cedi was trading at a buying price of 12.7936 and a selling price of 12.8064 against the US dollar, according to the Bank of Ghana’s Interbank Foreign Exchange rates.
The dollar is being bought at 13.35 and sold at 13.75 at an Accra forex bureau.
