Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has urged African countries to take up the task of producing for its citizens, a lesson to learn in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to the second gentleman of the land, the pandemic will usher in more self- reliance by countries in the production of goods and services.
There has been lockdown across most countries in the world due to the outbreak of the disease, making it difficult to import basic necessary products from other countries.
Most Economic analysts have also proposed African countries, in particular, should take up the challenge to engage in self-productions rather than always depending on the Western countries for almost most of the things we need.
Businesses and local industries have also been tasked to take up the challenge to ensure raw materials are processed in Africa instead of exporting them to other foreign countries for processing.
Dr. Bawumia is the latest personality to add his voice on the matter in his Facebook post on Friday, 10th April 2020 on the need for African countries to take its destiny into their own hands in the future.
Below is his post on Facebook:
“The post-COVID-19 global economic architecture is going to be a radically different one. It will usher in more self- reliance by countries in the production of goods and services. We in Africa have to get ready for this future.”
