Due to network challenges, not a single prospective new voter has been registered in New Juaben South.
Dozens of applicants arrived at the New Juaben South Office of the Electoral Commission to register, but they found themselves unable to do so.
As of 11: 00a.m., none of the first-time voters who turned up had been successfully registered.
Many applicants expressed their frustration over the situation.
Kofi Asante Owusu, the New Juaben South Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, reported that the issue had been communicated to the headquarters, and they were hopeful that the problem would be resolved promptly.
In New Juaben South there are three teams for the registration. Apart from the Municipal Electoral office, there is a team at Koforidua Technical University to register students for two days, while a mobile team will be deployed to the remote areas.
The Electoral Commission began its limited voter registration exercise today, Tuesday, May 7.
The exercise is targeted at first-time voters and those who wish to obtain a voter card. The registration period is scheduled to last 21 days, ending on May 27, 2024.
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Mensa, stated that the exercise aims to register approximately 623,000 first-time voters across the country.
