The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Chancellor of the Presbyterian University Ghana (PUG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare-Kwakye, has called on the nation to approach the upcoming national elections with integrity and responsibility.
Speaking at the School of Graduate Studies’ 6th Congregation Ceremony at the Ramseyer Training Centre, he emphasized the crucial role of educated citizens in shaping Ghana’s future.
“As a nation, we stand on the brink of a new era in our history with the upcoming national elections,” said Rev. Dr. Opare-Kwakye.
He urged the graduands to exercise their democratic rights wisely, voting not out of self-interest or narrow-mindedness but with a genuine desire for positive change and societal progress.
He called on the new graduates to reject empty promises and divisive rhetoric, advocating instead for unity and mutual respect.
“Let us come together as one nation, united in our shared aspirations and common humanity. Engage in civil discourse and constructive dialogue, respecting our differences while striving towards our shared goals,” he said.
The Moderator stated that true democracy thrives in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
During his address, the Chancellor also announced significant initiatives to support the university’s development, including a scholarship fund and a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory worth $1 million.
“The Presbyterian Church of Ghana is very keen to see the development of the university,” he said, adding that he would contribute 100,000 Ghana cedis to the scholarship fund established by his predecessor.
Rev. Dr. Opare-Kwakye highlighted the importance of these initiatives for supporting needy but brilliant students and enhancing the teaching and learning of information communication technology.
This year, 341 students graduated from PUG’s various master’s degree programs, comprising 224 males and 117 females.
