Out of 566 positive cases of COVID-19 cases recorded in Ghana, 58% are male and 42% are female, according to percentage distribution by sex and age group in Ghana from March to April.
Persons with no history of travel stands at 66.6% and persons with a history of travel are also 33.4% as of 12th April, barely one month Ghana recorded first cases.
Age group of confirmed cases from the Ghana Health Service indicate that people from males from 35 to 44 years represent 70%, 45 to 59years represent 58%, 15 to 24years represent 58% and 25 to 34 represent 54%.
On the female side, Cases among Teenagers and kids up to 15 years is 62%, a person from 65 years is 55%, 25 to 34years is 48%.
As of 11 April 2020, 23:00 Hrs, a total of 37,954 persons have been tested with 566 being positive for COVID-19. The breakdown of the 566 positive cases are as follows: four (4) have been treated, discharged and tested negative, 552 cases have been categorized as mild disease on treatment, two (2) moderate to severe cases, none currently on ventilators and eight (8) have died.
Of the 566 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 292 were reported from the routine surveillance, 159 from enhanced surveillance activities and 115 from travelers under mandatory quarantine in both Accra and Tamale.
Over the past thirteen (13) days (since the introduction of the enhanced surveillance), a number of measures have been introduced to control and prevent further spread of COVID-19 in Ghana. Among these include restrictive movement in the hotspots of the outbreak, intensive contact tracing and laboratory testing, social distancing, and intensive public education. These measures have resulted in a sudden increase in case detection, with a high number of cases being reported.
