One inmate is currently under quarantine at the Koforidua Central Prisons in the Eastern Regional capital, according to officials of the facility.
Meanwhile, fourteen (14) other inmates under remand custody have also completed their 14-day quarantine with none of them testing positive to the deadly COVID-19 virus.
DSP Duncan Osafo Darko, Head of Duties, revealed to the media that the facility has put down pragmatic measures to ensure the virus does not break into the facility.
According to him, Prison officers who stay outside the vicinity of the disease have all been asked to go on compulsory leave whilst those allowed to work are also mandated to follow laid down procedures put in place by management.
“We have provided Veronica buckets, soaps, sanitizers, and other materials in front of the facility so every officer is required to wash their hands before been allowed to enter. We also test officers daily to ensure nobody carries the virus into the facility” he stressed.
DSP Osafo Darko added the facility has an ultra-modern clinic that takes care of the health of both inmates and officers, especially in this era of health pandemic.
He disclosed this year during a donation to the facility by the Christian Redemption International Ministry led by Head Pastor Snr Prophet Benard Opoku Nsiah on Easter Sunday, 12th April 2020.
“1.80 pesewas has been allocated to each inmate for a three square meal daily but it is not enough, hence inmates depend on donations like this to survive. We are grateful to Snr Prophet and his congregation for thinking about the welfare of inmates” Dsp Osafo Darko retreated.
