The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey accompanied H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit held in Seoul, South Korea from 4th to 5th June, 2024. The Summit, which was convened under the theme “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity” sought to propel the partnership between Korea and Africa to new heights and focus on achieving mutual prosperity and collaboration to tackle global challenges.
The Summit discussed among others the importance of leveraging Africa’s vast natural and human resources, and the Republic of Korea’s expertise in industrialisation and technology to a achieve a mutually beneficial partnership that enhances growth and development for both regions. The Summit concluded with the adoption of a declaration between Africa and Korea. Prior to the Summit, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey participated in the Foreign Ministers meeting, which considered a Draft Vision Statement.
Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey, in the company of Ghana’s Minister for Finance Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam held a bilateral meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Cho Tae Yul in the margins of the Summit. The meeting focused on strengthening of cooperation in areas such as climate change, defence, infrastructure and education. At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Renewal of the Korea-Ghana Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) Framework Agreement from 2024-2028 was signed.
