Former Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Michael Teye Nyaunu, has expressed strong support for the Mahama-Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang ticket, describing it as superior and more trustworthy than the New Patriotic Party’s candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
He praised Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang’s competence and effective and respectful delivery and Mahama’s political maturity, emphasizing their potential to benefit Ghana.
“One characteristics of a good leader must be trusted , must be held in high esteem, must be a role model must be an honest man. My problem now is that Dr. Bawumia for instance in NPP is not credit worthy. He is not credible. He is a number one liar. In fact I always say in my house when Dr. Bawumia appears on television my cat withdraws”. Teye Nyaunu told the media in Koforidua.
He added ” I have never seen anybody in the history of this country holding such a high position that is so unreliable, that not truthful, that is not down to the earth. I must say that even Matthew Opoku Prempeh has got credibility than Dr. Bawumia honestly. I wish he doesn’t get it at all because he has really dragged that high office into the mud”.
Teye Nyaunu also criticized the current government under President Akufo-Addo, accusing it of poor governance and calling for the NPP’s removal.
Despite his history of criticizing Mahama and being suspended from the NDC for misconduct, Nyaunu now commends Mahama’s growth and experience, believing his return as President would be advantageous for the country.
“He [Mahama] has learnt a lot. The way he was just delivering extempo like that you can see that he is a man whose hand is on the steer and could know where the breaks and accelerators and all those things are. Now he is matured. Mahama is really matured now, and if we have him as President I have no doubt and qualms about that I believe the second coming of Mahama will be quite advantageous to the nation.”
Nyaunu, who served in Parliament for 16 years after first being elected in 1996, is known for his critical stance towards members of his own party, including its leadership.
He was suspended by the NDC in the Lower Manya Krobo constituency for misconduct along with three other party members. He also ran as an independent parliamentary candidate in the 2012 elections but later returned to the NDC.
He assured to resurface in the political stage to campaign for the NDC ahead of the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections after years of hibernation.
