A nationwide strike action by Organised labour has affected activities in the Eastern region on Monday.
Some labour group offices in Koforiuda, including circuit courts A and B, the birth and death registry and other agencies were locked up at the ministries.
Chairs for patients were empty, with few staff at the premises, a visit by Mybrytfmonline reporter to Koforidua Poly Clinic has brought this to light.
People visiting the ministries for their business need to revisit the offices again due to the strike action.
The strike was in protest against the sale of 60 percent of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares in four hotels.
Organised labour declared the strike on Friday, July 12, ordering all members to adhere to the decision.
Meanwhile, organised labour has made a U-turn and called off the nationwide strike, which was supposed to begin on Monday, July 15, 2024.
At an emergency meeting held in Accra on Monday, Dr Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, said they had decided to end the strike and requested that all workers are to resume work on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
He indicated that they had also given SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to engage with the labour groups to address all outstanding issues related to the management of pensions.
Dr Baah cautioned that they would “advise themselves” if SSNIT fails to meet their demand.
He expressed gratitude to all the working people of Ghana and all Organized Labour groups for their support during the strike.
