Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, has challenged the NPP Parliamentary candidate, Pius Enam Hadzide, to prove his contributions to the development of Asuogyaman. Hadzide has served as Deputy Minister and is the current Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority.
The MP stated that he will resign if Pius Enam Hadzide can demonstrate that he has done more for the community than himself. “Pius Enam Hadzide, whose party is in government and has many privileges, failed to support the development of the communities yet wants to hoodwink the people that when he becomes MP, he will bring development,” Nyarko remarked.
Hon. Nyarko highlighted his own achievements as an opposition MP, using limited resources to make significant contributions to the community. “Most of the things I have done as an opposition Member of Parliament. When someone tells you Ampem Nyarko gets the Common Fund and GETFund, tell them that it is with those funds that I have rehabilitated your school, paid your children’s fees, and bought mattresses for them to go to school. My share of the Common Fund is just 5%, but those who take 95% over the past eight years, tell me what they have done in this Labolabo community.”
Nyarko emphasized the disparity in resources, stating, “Pius, who benefits much as Deputy Minister and CEO of the National Youth Authority, receives 50% more than the Member of Parliament. I challenge him to tell me what he has done in the Labolabo community. If he can demonstrate that he has worked more than me, I will resign.”
The MP questioned the ability of government officials to bring development as MPs if they couldn’t do so with greater resources. “If you are a minister or CEO in government and you can’t help us, what can you do when you become an MP with fewer benefits, while in opposition?” he asked.
Nyarko listed several projects he has completed to support the area’s development:
“When you go to Nkwakubiw and Osiben, you will see their community centers that I helped them build.I renovated the Asikumi clinic and built the Asikumi police station when I was DCE, but they have neglected it for the past eight years.I constructed the Osiabura community center and a volleyball court at Osiabura.I constructed a clinic at Fentey as DCE, but they have neglected its completion.Water projects in Fentey and Frankadua were constructed by me.
I have completed a classroom block at Frankadua, which I will commission soon, and I built a toilet at Frankadua. I can continue to list the projects, but time will not permit.”
Addressing the Labolabo community, Nyarko stated that he has utilized his 5% share of the Common Fund judiciously to embark on community development and interventions across the constituency, more effectively than the District Assembly, which has access to 95% of the Common Fund.
He urged constituents to hold the Assembly and the NPP accountable, demanding probity and transparency regarding the utilization of funds over the past eight years.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko is seeking a third term as Member of Parliament after making history as the first MP in Asuogyaman to win two consecutive terms.
