Former Ghana football star Mohammed Polo has urged the current Black Stars players to protect the legacy left behind by the country’s football legends.
The Black Stars has been poor in recent times, suffering back-to-back elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana had a sloppy start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series after recording one draw and one defeat in two games.
The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco, deepening the teams’ woes in the qualifying series.
Before this game, Ghana had suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium last week. Felicio Milson’s strike was enough to secure maximum points for the visiting team.
Speaking to Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Polo encouraged the current squad to safeguard the mark left behind by Black Stars legends.
“We should know things are not the way it used to be. We have to change our attitude as a football nation. The current players must know there is a legacy to protect. We left a mark during our playing days and it will be prudent for the current generation to raise and not downgrade it. It’s a huge challenge so they have to play above themselves” he said.
The four-time African champions will return to action in October and are set to battle it out with Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in a doubleheader.
Sudan has been impressive under the former Black Stars, recording five wins after seven games so far.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo and his charges will be aiming for a positive results when they take on Sudan next month.
