The Public Accounts Committee has directed the National Buffer Company to replace expired margarine that it supplied to Methodist Girls SHS in Mamfi in the Eastern Region.
PAC issued the directive at Ho, the Volta Regional Capital where the committee is considering the Auditor- general’s report for the year ended, 2023 of some District Assemblies, Metropolitan, Municipal and Senior High Schools from the Eastern Region
The School authorities explained that when they detected the Margarine had expired, a letter was written to Buffer stock company but they failed to respond adding that the unwholesome product has been kept at a separate stock in the School.
The School has however made sure that the students did not consume the product.
Further, upon opening the container there was stench coming out which made them believe that the product cannot be consumed.
The Chairman said “I am sure you didn’t serve the students with the expired Margarine “.
The Chairman said “Regional Director take up this matter, get the letters that the School wrote to Buffer Stock Company and inform the School feeding secretariat, and draw their attention that this is what is happening at Methodist Girls SHS”.
That notwithstanding, the Auditors have recommended that management adopt best method of disposing the Margarine and notify Buffer stock, Koforidua on the decision to avoid any breakup of disease.
Again they recommended that the supplier NGE Ghana Limited refund the amount involved to Buffer Stock or replace it to the school without delay.
