The Chief of Abotakyi- Akuapem in the Eastern region Okyekyekro Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II has installed three new chiefs to the positions as Mankrado, Kyidomhemea and Abontendomhene of Abotakyi.
The three newly installed chiefs with the stool names Nana Kwaku Kumi, Nana Akua Mantebea ,Nana Kwame Ohene Yeboah II, were sworn-in to occupy the positions as Mankrado, Kyidomhemea and Abontendomhene respectively.
The 42 year old Mankrado Nana Kwaku Kumi an alumnus of University of Mines and Technology and now works with Newmont Ghana at New Abirem in the Eastern region was sworn- in together with the Kyidomhemea Nana Akua Mantebea known in private life as Doris Owusu and Abontendomhene Nana Kwame Ohene Yeboah known in private life as Kwame Yeboah on Friday 27th September, 2024.
Okyekyekro Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II the Chief of Abotakyi addressed the gathering at the swearing-in ceremony and clarified that performing traditional rites and customs does not symbolize idol worshipping hence the need for one to avail himself or herself whenever a traditional role is entrusted on them.
In his address, Okyekyekro Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II used the occasion to appeal to Ghanaians to contribute their parts towards a peaceful election in the upcoming December 7th polls insisting that nothing should be a reason to compromise the peace of the country.
“Traditional leaders should remain neutral without depicting any political coloration and preach unity to unite the people in their communities towards the election”
“Peace is valuable so as a country we need not to do anything that will jeopardize the peace of the country because it is easy to destabilize peace but it will be difficult to regain it back”
“After the election whoever wins we the chiefs will serve that government because we serve government of the day to contribute our part towards the nation’s development , when there is no peace you can’t even sleep and you will not have anywhere to go to survive so let us all unite as one people for this election” Okyekyekro Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II appealed to Ghanaians.
Finally, on the issues relating to illegal mining and the destruction caused to the water bodies in recent times, the chief noted that nature will not forgive those who engage in the act and causing health problems to others hence called for a ban on illegal mining.
