Director – General of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) , Mr. Kofi Osafo Maafo has advised Ghanaians to save with SSNIT rather than with saving with susu collectors.
According to him, saving with SSNIT is secured and also has benefits that these small savings and loan companies can’t provide.
He made this assertion during a program which was held at Baca hotel at Koforidua in the Eastern Region with the theme dubbed ‘Pensioners Engagement 2024’. Which aims at involving, informing and supporting individuals receiving pensions, typically from a retirement plan or social security scheme.
“Instead of you saving with susu collectors you don’t know , and where they save your money and if any challenges come you will be able to locate them , you better save with SSNIT for a monthly pension pay”. He stated.
In his capacity as the director general of SSNIT and the event’s first speaker, Mr. Osafo Maafo spoke on behalf of contributors, pensioners, and stakeholders. He engaged in a thorough discussion on a number of topics, including the release of the International Labour Organization’s significant report on the sustainability of the SSNIT program.
He also mentioned that one of the goals of the meeting was to get to know all of SSNIT’s contributors, pensioners, and stakeholders in order to reassure them that the organization is here to stay and that they can continue to have faith in them.
He made several important points in his speech to highlight their commitment to openness, communication, transparency, and addressing people’s concerns. As evidenced by the program today, he said, every pension plan in the world faces difficulties and challenges related to shifting demographics, the possibility of famine, and the various economies that pension plans are meant to support.
“ Most people are aware that several countries have raised their retirement ages in response to population change, with Europe serving as a prime example. Despite these issues, Ghana is lucky to have a retirement age of 60.” He added.
