Renowned political analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has openly endorsed the speaker of parliament’s decision to declare four seats in parliament vacant.
Dr. Otchere claims that because these parliamentarians chose to run as an independent candidates in their various constituencies.
In an interview on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, Dr. Otchere affirmed that ,the main reason for Asiamah’s removal is due to his decision to abandon the NPP party and run independently, which is against the party’s rules.
Dr. Otchere stressed that the Supreme Court has the last say in matters of law and that the speaker is subject to a supreme law.
“The legislative dynamics have changed as a result of the expulsion, with the minority now holding majority and vice versa. Nevertheless, they will continue to oversee government business even though they are in the minority. Those who lost their seats will still receive benefits equal to other parliament members, possibly with the exception of their salary. The only significant impact on them is that they can no longer enter the Parliament House”, he added.
