The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osman Ayariga, has declared that individuals in the current NPP-led government who are involved in corruption will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted should the NDC come into power.
He stated that recent resignations, such as that of the former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Board Chair of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), will not prevent investigations into their actions.
Speaking at the campaign launch for the Binduri constituency in the Upper East Region, Ayariga, who also leads the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, stressed that an NDC government would ensure accountability for those who have misused their positions, irrespective of whether they step down.
“The NPP knows they’ve lost the 2024 elections. Because of this, their corrupt officials have started resigning one by one. Two weeks ago, we heard that the ECG boss resigned, citing personal reasons. But after January 7th, we will find out if those reasons were truly personal. Last week, the ADB board chairman, accused of corruption and bribery, also resigned.”
“A thief is still a thief, whether you resign or not. So, whether you resign today or on January 7th, you remain a thief. We will come after them one by one. To those still in government, the earlier you resign to reduce your sentence, the better. If you don’t resign and wait until December 7th, and we have to catch you after wasting resources, your sentence will be harsher than those who have already resigned. But a thief remains a thief,” Ayariga warned.
