“As we commission the new 75KW micro hydro plant at the Tsatsadu Mini Hydro Dam and the Bui Power Centre of Excellence, I’m reminded of how this vision took shape when I was Minister of Energy and Fred Oware was CEO of Bui Power. This Centre is intended as a training ground for engineering students from all universities, providing hands-on experience in hydro generation. Bui Power is set to sign an MOU with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST and other West African universities, pushing this initiative even further” Hohoe MP John Peter Amewu.
In 2020, under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership, the first 45KW micro hydro plant was commissioned in Alavanyo, marking a significant milestone in power generation for Hohoe.
This plant, designed and built solely by Ghanaian engineers at Bui Power Authority (BPA), eased the burden on the national grid, providing reliable energy to Hohoe and its surrounding areas, all funded internally by BPA.
In 2022, Mr. Amewu spearheaded the expansion of the plant, nearly doubling its capacity with the addition of a 75KW micro hydro unit. We now have a total of 120KW of energy capacity, the first of its kind in Ghana.
He said “This would not have been possible without the support of Hon. Mathew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as Energy Minister and Hon. Kofi Dzamesi as CEO of Bui Power Authority who have been committed to ensuring the implementation of this project”.
“I am also pleased to announce that, building on the expertise gained from this project, Bui Power will commence a 3MW hydro plant at the Wli Waterfalls early next year. This project, a turnkey mini-hydro initiative focused on Hohoe’s natural resources, demonstrates what’s possible when leadership is visionary and action-driven”.
According to him, the project aligns perfectly with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision to deliver 2000MW of solar power in the next 4years if elected president on December 7th.
“The potential for growth and innovation is limitless and Ghana needs a forward-thinking, bold solution-oriented leader to drive this course and who better than that Dr. Bawumia. As a country, despite the setbacks, we dare not retreat, we must refuse to take even a single step backward. Let us keep pushing forward and forward alone”.
“The future is here; December 7th, let’s seize it and make the bold choice for continued progress not backward probabilities” he stressed.
