The Electoral Commission (EC) has released the final certified voter registers ahead of the 2024 general elections, scheduled for December 7.
According to the commission, a total of 18,774,159 valid voters have been confirmed as qualified to participate in the upcoming election.
The figure includes the biometrically registered voters which are of 18,640,811 who will undertake a biometric verification on the elections day.
Voters without biometric data covers 1,870 voters whose biometric data was corrupted for one reason or the other, requiring manual verification on elections day.
Meanwhile, special voters of about 131,478 individuals, including personnel from security agencies, media, and EC officials, who for a reason allowed by law to vote earlier than the elections day.
Total number of the Valid Voters for the general elections sum up to 18,774,159 whilst, the Total number of Voters on Proxy List is of 2,141.
Number of Voters on the Exceptions list sums 33,352 and 26,569 are the Total Voters on the Multiple list.
In a statement, the EC noted that the logistical adjustments have led to the administrative closure of certain polling stations.
Some stations were closed because, according to the EC, they did not meet up with the minimum required voter proceedings, while others were closed at the request of local communities.
Voters from these closed stations, the EC stated, have been reassigned to nearby polling stations to ensure that they can still participate in the election.
The Total number of the Absent Voters are of 441,173 but no Register was generated for those closed Polling Stations Therefore, no Absent Voters list was created for them resulting in 884 voters excluded from the Absent Voters List.
