Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman, Chief of Akyem Muoso, has called on politicians to maintain peace during Ghana’s upcoming elections on December 7 and to avoid actions that could destabilize the country in pursuit of political power.
Speaking at a durbar to commemorate the first anniversary of his installation as Chief, Osabarima Beyeeman said that the nation’s peace must not be sacrificed for political ambition.
He urged politicians and citizens alike to act responsibly during the election period.
“It is election year, and we must prioritize peace,” he stated. “Colonial masters usurped traditional rulers’ powers and handed governance to politicians. However, Ghana does not belong solely to politicians. No one, regardless of their political lineage or past contributions, has the right to endanger the country’s peace.”
The chief advised citizens to peacefully cast their votes and return home to await the results, stressing that losing or winning is a natural part of elections.
He reiterated assurances given by the Inspector General of Police regarding security measures to ensure a peaceful election process and urged Ghanaians not to be used as tools for violence.
Osabarima Dr. Owusu Beyeeman also reflected on the negative impact of chieftaincy disputes, recalling how conflicts nearly destroyed Akyem Muoso.
He lamented the prevalence of violent chieftaincy struggles across Ghana and appealed to kingmakers to uphold fairness and sincerity to maintain peace in their communities.
Addressing his own experience, he explained that he did not aspire to become a chief but accepted the role to unify the community and promote development after a prolonged period of disputes.
In his address, Professor Kwame Gyan, a senior lawyer and lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, commended the chief for his efforts in fostering peace and development within Akyem Muoso.
He described the progress made under Osabarima Beyeeman’s leadership over the past year as remarkable and urged the subjects to continue supporting him to sustain the gains.
