A special program was held at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) premises on November 14, 2024, to commission a 128 KWP solar installation.
The event was held under the theme “Guiding The Green Revolution Through Regulatory Leadership and Sustainable Partnership”.
Ishmael Ackah, the Executive secretary for PURC, highlighted the importance of energy diversity and green revolution.
The initiative was made possible through partnership between PURC, the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Volta River Authority, with sponsorship from the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).
According to Mr. Ackah, the program is aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of diversifying energy sources, particularly after the construction of their building.
He again emphasized the initiative was necessary due to instances where power may not be available or affordable for everyone.
Present at the commissioning ceremony was the Gyaasehene of the new Juaben traditional council, Nana Twumasi Dankwah who delivered the key note address, underpin the importance of solar power to augment the national grid.
He further appealed to other institutions and agencies to follow the steps of GIZ to support institutions in the country.
He also stressed the need for effective leadership, encouraging those in higher positions to positively impact their subordinates and foster a harmonious work environment.
Furthermore, he expressed concern about negative attitude of some individuals at the workplace, urging them to approach their duties with integrity, openness, and a commitment to protecting institutional resources rather than misappropriating them.
The Eastern Regional General Manager for the ECG also graced the occasion, emphasizing the significance of PURC as a key stakeholder.
“PURC plays a dual role as both our regulator and customer,” she noted.
She pledged to review and strengthen their partnership with PURC, providing support that will enhance their collaborative work to benefit all Ghanaians.
The commissioning of the solar installation marks a significant step towards promoting energy diversity and sustainability in Ghana.
