Information reaching mybrytfmonline.com is that there is simmering tension at Korle Nkwanta a suburb of New Juaben South Municipality over the death of a resident at Akwadum.
Mybrytfmonline.com reported on Sunday, April 19, 2020, around 9:00pm that, a commercial Vehicle driver, Ato Apau, a resident of Akwadum violently stabbed a passenger for protesting against overloading contrary to the directive on social distancing.
The deceased- Kwasi Ameley, 30, and his brother picked a quarrel with Driver and mate after complaining that the Vehicle had overloaded. Upon reaching Akwadum roundabout, the two brothers angrily alighted and banged the door of the vehicle while insulting the driver.
The driver became furious, jumped out of the Vehicle to fight the two brothers with support from his mate. The mate allegedly pulled a knife for the driver to stab the disease multiple times to death. His brother sustained serious injuries and reported to be in critical condition at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
The driver was arrested but the mate is at large.
After the incident, the youth of Korley Nkwanta has been threatening to invade Akwadum Zongo to retaliate the death of their brother.
“The youth in this community mobilized in an attempt to attack Akwadum Zongo community in retaliation for killing one of their own but I restrained them .so it this important there is justice to avert any attack. The youth are very angry because there are some irritating commentaries from the Akwadum community which are not good”. Akonde Lanbante Issah, Assemblymember for Korle Nkwanta said.
Meanwhile, the suspect Driver was on Wednesday remanded by Koforidua District Magistrate Court “B”.
He will reappear in court after two weeks.
