Accra, Ghana – In a bid to bolster the agricultural sector and enhance food security, Hon. Eric Opoku, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, continued his official tour of the Ministry’s directorates on the second day of his visit.
The Minister’s engagement focused on connecting with stakeholders, evaluating ongoing initiatives, and familiarizing himself with the roles of ministry staff.
Women in Agricultural Development Directorate
The Minister kicked off his day at the Women in Agricultural Development Directorate situated at Nungua Farms. This vital Directorate is dedicated to empowering women in agriculture through a range of programs that aim to boost their involvement in food production and agribusiness.
During his visit, Hon. Opoku emphasized the significant role women play in enhancing food security in Ghana.
Acknowledging the numerous challenges women face in the sector, including difficulties in accessing financing and resources, the Minister engaged in discussions about potential strategies to alleviate these issues and enhance support for women in agriculture.
Veterinary Services Directorate
The Veterinary Services Directorate, is an agency crucial to safeguarding animal health and ensuring food safety. Hon. Opoku highlighted the urgent need for improved veterinary services to address animal diseases that pose threats to livestock production and public health.
