The Ghana Health Service has launched a cholera vaccination campaign in the Effutu and Agona West districts of the Central Region, targeting an estimated number of residents.
The campaign aims to stop the spread of cholera and is part of a series of campaigns across the region.
Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director General of the Ghana Health Service, emphasized the importance of taking the vaccine while maintaining personal hygiene to prevent the spread of cholera. He encouraged everyone in the targeted districts, from age one and above, to get vaccinated, assuring that the vaccines are free and safe. He also used the occasion to hand over some Personal Protective Equipments(PPEs) on behalf of the Hon. Health Minister to the regional Minister to hand over to the Regional Health Directorate for the management of the cases.
The Hon. Central Regional Minister, Ekow Payin Okeyere Aduamoah, also advised communities to maintain personal and environmental hygiene. He announced that every Saturday morning, starting from the coming weekend, will be devoted to general cleaning.
This campaign is crucial, given the recent cholera outbreaks in Ghana. The Ghana Health Service has been working to combat the outbreak, and this vaccination campaign is a significant step towards preventing further spread.
