On Independence Day, President Mahama’s heart was with the people of Amutinu, Salakope, and Agavedzi in the Volta region who are battling the devastating effects of tidal waves.
The president spent the afternoon with them, witnessing firsthand the challenges they face.

He also distributed food, relief items, and provided some cash support.
Seeing the devastation reinforced President Mahama’s commitment to finding a long-term solution to the disaster.

He assured that he will instruct the finance minister to allocate funds in the 2025 budget for Phase Two of the Berekusu Sea Defence Project, indicating the need to protect these communities.
The President was shocked by the shoddy work done on a resettlement housing project ongoing in one of the communities.
