The Bishop of Damongo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Paul Angkyier has passionately appealed to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health to help in the approval of financial clearance for most of the staff working at St. Anne Catholic Hospital in Damongo.
According to Most Rev. Angkyier who is also the Bishop in-charge of Health on the Catholic Bishops Conference, the Hospital has been losing specialised Doctors to other private Hospitals because of financial clearance.
He also advocated for equipment and government support to improve on water and electricity supply at the Hospital.
Most. Rev. Angkyier made this appeal when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health paid a working visit to St. Anne Catholic Hospital, Damongo in the Savannah Region.
In his presentation to the Members of the Committee, the Medical Director at St. Anne Catholic Hospital, Dr. Nelson Agboadoh, reiterated the urgent need for financial clearance, stressing that about 50 staff of the Hospital are working without financial clearance.
He said the 50 staff are being paid out of the meagre Internal Generated Fund (IGF) of the Hospital. “ This situation demoralises the staff and something must be done about it” he stated.
He also appealed to the Committee to help refurbished the maternity ward and include a VIP section that can accommodate certain high class of personalities when the need arises.
Dr. Agboadoh in a humble mood disclosed that the current President His Excellency John Dramani Mahama was born at the very Maternity ward of the Hospital, and it would be a great honour to the Hospital if the ward was refurbished.
In his remarks the Member of Parliament for Daffiama /Bussie/ Issa, Hon. Sebastian Sandaare, who led the Committee, noted that President Mahama is much particular about Healthcare delivery in the country hence his initiative of the Mahama Care and Prime Health care delivery therefore all the necessary attention would be given to the ward and the Hospitals in the Savannah Region.
The Hospital needs a permanent Pharmacist, modern equipment, anti snake drugs and payment of the Medical Doctor according to his speciality.
The Regional Director of Health, Dr. John Ekow Otoo and his team who accompanied the Committee members during the visit at the Hospital promised to work closely with the Hospital Management to help them achieve their aim of making the Hospital achieve a level 5 status in the near future.
The objective of the tour is to evaluate the current state of Regional Hospitals, identify areas that require improvement and develop strategies to address these challenges.
