A steel bridge linking two farming communities – Abisim Dawa and Abisim Yeboah has become a death trap to commuters. The Bridge is across the Densu River which lies between the two communities.
The tattered bridge which is on the verge of collapsing is not only endangering the lives of commuters but also affecting the transportation of farm produce to cities.
“Abisim Dawa is located off Nankese to Adarkwa road of Suhum municipality, whilst Abisim Yeboah is located off your way to Ntabea, Asafo, Kibi, Tafo and Kukurantumi of the Abuakwa south. These two municipalities are bounded by the Densu River respectively. The bridge which serves these municipalities has become a death trap” a resident lamented.
“On 30th April 2020, 6:15pm did not go to oblivious in the mind and heart of the people living within these two communities when one man by the name -Isaac Mensah, crossing the bridge from Abuakwa South end that is from Abisim Yeboah Community to Abisim Dawa fell through the metals into the main Densu river leaving him with a serious injury. Mr. Isaac Mensah, when rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital, became breathless, and unable to speak hence his admission to the emergency ward” Another resident narrated.
The bridge which was built by the government in the year 2000, has never been renovated hence its condition continues to deteriorate.
This has become a major concern to residents all peasant farmers hence appealing to the Suhum Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the area, Opare Ansah to urgently come to the aid of the community to rehabilitate the bridge to avert total collapse which will cut off the communities from the major towns.
