Teachers at Duaponko DA Basic School in the Afigya Kwabre North district of Ghana’s Ashanti region are expressing their frustration and disappointment over the deplorable state of their school.
The school’s infrastructure is in a state of disrepair, with bats taking over the only available building, making teaching and learning extremely challenging.
The teachers, who walk four miles daily from Kwaman to Duaponko due to the poor state of the road, are calling for urgent assistance from the government to address the school’s numerous challenges. The school’s toilet facility was destroyed by a rainstorm, and the teachers and students lack basic furniture such as chairs and tables.
The absence of a school feeding program has also led to low enrollment and poor attendance, making teaching and learning even more difficult in the farming community.
The teachers are appealing to the government to provide them with essential teaching and learning materials, as well as solutions to eradicate the bats that have infested the school building.
In an interview with the media, the teachers emphasized the need for immediate attention to address the school’s challenges. They are seeking support from the Ministry of Education, led by Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, to provide them with the necessary resources to create a conducive learning environment for their students.
