Minister for Works and Water Resources, Francis Asenso Boakye was joined by the deputy minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio, CEO of the Forestry Commission, Mr. John Allotey and officials of the Ghana Highway Authority to inspect geotechnical works at the Atafoa bridge in the Bantama constituency.
It is to pave way for the construction of a new bridge at Atafoa on the Owabi river.
The new bridge, when completed will help curb the perennial flooding in the area, which blocks over 50,000 commuters for several hours and disrupts economic activities in the area during rainfall.
The minister added “We also used the opportunity to engage forestry officials at Owabi forest station, who were concerned because the new bridge will have a negative impact on some trees in the forest”.
