A fire erupted on the second floor of Kejetia Market in Kumasi on the morning of January 24, 2025, affecting two stores, S-1785 and S-1786.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) demonstrated exceptional efficiency, arriving at the scene just six minutes after receiving the emergency call at 05:27 hours.
Through well-coordinated and tactical firefighting efforts, the GNFS successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops in the bustling market. The team employed a combination of two 5kg CO₂ fire extinguishers, twenty-six 6kg dry chemical powder extinguishers, and water from a hose reel to extinguish the flames.
Out of 25 shops in the immediate vicinity, 23 were salvaged, highlighting the effectiveness of the intervention. The rapid response not only minimized property damage but also ensured the safety of the surrounding area.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, a testament to the GNFS’s preparedness and vigilance. The incident has been praised for the fire service’s prompt action, which averted what could have been a catastrophic event in one of Ghana’s largest commercial hubs.
