The Offinso South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Kingsley Appiah, who doubles as chairman of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has ordered the temporary shutdown of the Badu Information Centre in the Agyeimpra community of Offinso, Ashanti Region.
However, the action of the DCE is reported to be politically motivated since the owner of the Information center, an NDC polling station executive has been using the facility to among other things criticize government and project NDC policies.
A letter signed by the Offinso South Municipal Coordinating Director, Muhammed A. Majeed, however cited non-compliance with noise control regulations as the reason for the directive, stressjng the need to maintain peace in the area.
Isaac Boakye, CEO of the centre and the NDC polling station chairman, refuted the noise allegations and claimed the move was politically motivated due to his support for the NDC.
He noted that he had adhered to all regulatory requirements, including paying fees and obtaining permits for operation.
Boakye believes the Information center has been targeted alleging intimidation by armed police and added that similar facilities in the area had not faced similar scrutiny.
The Offinso South NDC Chairman, Dominic Agyenim Boateng, is expected to respond further to these developments.
