The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah, has launched a fierce criticism of the Economic Management Team (EMT) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Dr. Omane Boamah dismissed the NPP’s claim of having the “best economic management team” as unfounded and a “figment of their imagination”.
Addressing residents of Akyem Tafo in the Eastern Region during a community engagement, the former Minister of Communications lamented Ghana’s worsening economic situation under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership.
“And they want to tell us that they have a solid team; a solid team indeed, a solid team my foot,” he said, ridiculing the Vice President.
Dr. Omane Boamah further labeled Dr. Bawumia as a “theoretical economist” who, in his view, fails to grasp the nation’s current economic crisis.
He questioned Dr. Bawumia’s track record, citing key economic indicators that have worsened during the NPP’s tenure.
“An economist who supervises inflation to fly all the way to 54% — is that one too an economist? An economist who supervises Ghana’s exchange rate to skyrocket one dollar to 17 cedis — is that one too an economist? An economist who supervises the national debt to balloon from 102 billion to over 700 billion cedis — is that one too an economist? An economist who oversees dual haircuts on bonds, the most secure form of investment? Is that one too an economist?” he asked rhetorically.
The former presidential spokesperson argued that it was time for a change in leadership, calling for the election of NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama in 2024. He underscored Mahama’s experience and vision as the remedy to Ghana’s current economic challenges.
“Going into the 2024 elections, three weeks and three days from now, we need a man with experience — John Dramani Mahama. We need the visionary John Mahama to reset our nation, create needed jobs, and relieve Ghanaians from rising fuel prices and economic hardship,” he said.
Dr. Omane Boamah pledged that the next NDC will establish Cocoa Processing factory attached to Cocoa Research Institute to add value to the Cocoa in the Eastern region.
The factory will operate under the 24-hour economy policy.
This he believes will help create job opportunities for the youth of Abuakwa North in particular and stimulate the local economy .
